About This Blog
The Utility Monster is a thought experiment made up by philosopher Robert Nozick as a critique of utilitarianism.
It is interesting, honest. And the attractiveness of the pun which forms the title of this blog just couldn’t be resisted by this humble author. But seriously, past the level of mere interest, one wonders how it applies to the politics of Real Life.
Cos that’s what this blog is actually about. Politics. Political philosophy is all very nice, but just how much philosophy is left in the ideology-free politics of the New Millennium?
Is it even worth bothering with politics any more? Isn’t the whole business just a futile use of time?
Well. I hope not. Because in truth, while we like to pretend we can’t live with politics, we actually couldn’t live without it.
As a fan of all things political, it makes the Monster weep to see politics treated with such disdain. But it deserves it. The Monster knows that. Everybody knows that.
Doesn’t mean we should ignore it though.
Blog images
Most of them have been shamefully stolen using a creative Google Images search. If you are the original creator, I’m truly sorry to have infringed your copyright. If you would like me to either desist or place an appropriate credit then contact me as soon as possible.
A handful were created by me for the sake of this blog, which makes them my own original work. Because it would be sheer hypocrisy otherwise, all of these are released into the public domain. Not that anyone would really want them. They’re crap!
